(to be filled in later - Cam has a rather unsettling talk with old Secret Service person. Refuses to drop case and do something else)

By the time she makes it to Greene Planet's La Paz branch ((also hotel/function place - site of party in QoS)), Camille is soaked. Slipping through the front doors and reaching the quadrangle, she has every intention of continuing. Her legs, however, have other ideas, and she ends up leaning against column, head bowed and eyes closed as she concentrates on her breathing.

In, and, out.

In, and, out.

(they can't get her here)

In, and, out.

The agent Camille is equipped with an American-made Rohrbaugh R9, the world’s smallest 9mm handgun.

Olga Kurylenko: ‘I’d have preferred a bigger gun but Camille wears short skirts, so I couldn’t have a huge weapon or you’d see it poking out. I spent a lot of time training. There’s a scene where I strip down a gun, so they made me do it 500 times. By the and I could strip it in eight seconds and put it back together in 11.’

Haiti is...hot. This is not something that is new to her; born in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and raised in Columbia, she is well used to the heat. But sometimes, it is just hot and the only thing to do is to retire in the shade and turn on the air-conditioning.

Only...the air-conditioner at the hotel isn't working.

The water in the taps is almost the same temperature as the air, so there goes her normal fall-back plan of sitting on the edge of the bath with her feet in cold water. And, besides, she is working and needs a wall.

The only remaining realistic option is just to say hell with it, and strip.

So it is that on this day, Camille is standing in front of a wall-turned-workboard, taping a marker against her leg as she studies information and maps, dressed in nothing but an ivory bra and yellow knickers with her hair pinned up.

Okay, fine.

Yellow with purple flowers, if you must know.

after this:

The good thing about curtains is that they block out the light. The bad thing is that sometimes, it just doesn't work. Which is why Camille moans slightly in protest, flings an arm over her eyes and goes to roll over.

Which is when her hand lands on Dominic instead of an empty bed.

For the record, she hadn't forgotten that he (yes, he) was there. Just, momentarily displaced the information.

This could be interesting.

She had said a week, a full week, and she meant a full week.

This is why at nine o'clock in the morning, a week after she left, Camille is knocking on Dominic's office door with a manila folder under her arm.

Now, last night, Camille had just gotten back from a plane trip and a bus ride and a week without her hair-straightener, and had looked it. This morning, her hair is back to being sleek and neat, her clothes back to a simple, elegant dress, and there is the faintest touch of perfume.

Appearances, after all, are everything, but half of it is just forcing herself to remember to be Camille again (Dava Giron is a far more comfortable fit than she should be).

The main advantage of La Paz is that it is cooler, and thus she can get away with wearing pants to places she normally wouldn't. And in the cool nights of June, this means she can wear dress pants to Chifa Emy (with a suitably dressy blouse, naturally) instead of a cocktail dress. Cocktail dresses just aren't designed with hiding weapons in mind.

The disadvantage of La Paz is that as a Montes, Camille is part of the Spanish elite, and while she's kept mostly to herself, she hadn't entirely been able to escape the party duties. What this means is that as she sits at the table, (apparently) playing with her wine glass, waiting for Dominic, she knows of roughly three-quarters of the room by name, and half of them by actual personal meeting.

It's not like Dominic to be late to anything - even by Bolivia's standards - but if he does not show up soon, Camille is contemplating killing him on sheer principle.

A side-opening knife's blade pivots out of the side of the handle (in the same manner as an ordinary folding knife, except with the press of a button).

(2) A curved, trailing-point knife has a back edge that curves upward. This lets a lightweight knife have a larger curve on its edge. Such a knife is optimized for slicing or slashing. Trailing point blades provide a larger cutting area, or belly, and are common on skinning knives.

And then Camille hears nothing from Greene for three days.

She has good nerves, excellent nerves, nerves of steel and steady-hands-defusing-ticking-bomb nerves, but she is also a professional intelligence officer in the middle of an undercover operation and by the time the memo finally (finally) arrives, you could use her nerves for guitar strings.

Officially it is siesta-time (one adapts to local customs), so the complex is quiet. Dominic's lobby to his private office shares a wall with the main lobby - one of the twin aquarium walls filled with Latin American fish. Most of the seats are across the other wall, presumably so people can be distracted by the fish and watching people through the water.

Camille - low-heeled ladies' boots, navy-black pants with a high waist, yellow blouse tucked in, two pairs of studs and one pair of hoops in her ears (she always takes care with her appearance, and this is no expection - is sitting on the low wooden bench with her back to the fish.

(No one is about to shoot her through the water)
